2026 Green River Clean Up

The 6th Annual Green River Cleanup brought 158 volunteers together for another great day of taking care of one of Utah’s most special waterways.

The Green River Cleanup is a little different from our other Fish For Garbage events. Instead of meeting at one location and spreading out, our volunteers take to the river. Groups launch their boats, float to assigned sections and work their way downstream, stopping along the banks and at lunch sites to pick up whatever doesn’t belong.

We don’t typically find the heavy trash we see at some of our other cleanups. Instead, the Green presents a different kind of problem. Unfortunately, a lot of what our volunteers find is the stuff nobody wants to see discarded personal hygiene items, toilet paper and other waste left behind at campsites and along the river. It isn’t glamorous work, and it definitely isn’t anyone’s favorite thing to pick up, but removing it makes a huge difference for everyone who comes down the river after us.

That makes us even more appreciative of the volunteers who were willing to float the river, get their hands dirty and leave their assigned sections cleaner than they found them.

A huge thank you to the folks from GROGA for once again co-hosting the cleanup and helping us coordinate another successful year on the Green. We were also excited to have The Green River Conservancy get involved this year and join the growing group of organizations working together to protect this incredible resource.

We also want to give a special thank you to the many local fishing and river guides who took the day off to volunteer. For these guides, a day on the river is a day of work and income, so choosing to give up that day to help clean the river says a lot about how much this community cares about the Green.

Thank you to Backcountry Hunters & Anglers of Utah and Uinta Brewing for sponsoring the volunteer BBQ and helping us feed everyone after a day on the water.

And thank you to Trout Creek Flies for donating this year’s grand prize and continuing to support the volunteers who show up and do the dirty work.

Six years into the Green River Cleanup, this event continues to show just how much people care about this river. Whether you fish it, float it, guide on it, camp along it or simply appreciate having places like this to enjoy, we all have a responsibility to leave them better than we found them.

Thank you to all the volunteers, local guides, partners and sponsors for making the 6th Annual Green River Cleanup another success.
