2023 MillCreek Clean Up & Bonnie Ball

Fish For Garbage recently had the opportunity to team up with Utah Wildlife Walls, the Utah Wildlife Federation, and the National Forest Service for this year's annual Bonnie Ball. It's a street fair in Salt Lake City that highlights Utah's native wildlife and the importance of conservation.

The day started off with more than 20 local volunteers and folks that just happened to be enjoying the canyon that morning eagerly joining forces with these organizations. Together, they filled several trash bags with litter and debris from the canyon's creek, numerous hiking trails, and picnic areas. The cleanup effort not only rejuvenated the area but also helped protect the native wildlife that calls Millcreek Canyon home.

The cleanup was just the beginning of this remarkable conservation initiative. After the hard work was done, the festivities moved to The Neighborhood Hive–a nearby market where the street fair is held every year. The fair featured booths and exhibits from various environmental organizations, hands-on activities and workshops for kids and adults, local artists and small businesses, and captivating wildlife-themed murals created by Utah Wildlife Walls. It was an exciting event that brought the community together to learn about, appreciate, and protect their local environment.

In a world where environmental conservation is more critical than ever, these local initiatives in Utah are shining examples of what can be achieved when communities come together. Events, organizations, and volunteers like this remind us that we all have a role to play in preserving our natural wonders. So, whether you're a Utah resident or a visitor, take inspiration from their work and get involved in local conservation efforts in your area. Together, we can make a big difference in the fight to protect our planet's precious ecosystems.
