2018 Weber River Clean Up

1st Annual Weber River Clean Up

September 15, 2018

Based on our recent years’ success working with the Brighton Anglers and several suggestions for other rivers to clean up around the Wasatch Front, we began to look for a second location.  With the enthusiasm and drive from Melissa Benjamin, we decided on the Weber River in Morgan, Utah.  We always choose the Saturday closest to Earth Day for the Provo River cleanup, so naturally, we decided on National Clean Up Day for our first annual Weber River Cleanup.

Always a great indicator of the event's early success is showing up 30 minutes before the start of the event to set up and two anglers were already wadered up in the parking lot and started cleaning up the banks of the river. From there we had many enthusiasts alike come through at a steady pave from 9 am – 10 am getting gloves, bags, breakfast bars (RxBars) and asking for locations to pick up trash. Though not ideal for our event we found it a Campaign problem that another group “Kayak Utah” was hosting a cleanup and river float a few miles up. However, between both of our groups, it was a strong turnout of participants.

For our first year on the Weber, we had 60 friends and families show up on this crisp fall day.  We filled one giant trailer and one dumpster for roughly 1500 lbs. of trash.  We want to thank everyone for taking the time to come out for this first-time event. We had a great time and look forward to hosting again in Fall 2019.

A massive thank you goes out to all of our partners who supported us this year:
